July is National Park and Recreation Month

Parks & Recreation Sampler

Celebrating the vital role of Parks and Recreation

in fostering strong, vibrant, and resilient communities.

You may have noticed that THERE ARE A LOT of different pieces to the Parks and Recreation puzzle!

Chatham County Parks and Recreation has amazing properties -- green spaces, sports complexes, community centers, playgrounds, boat ramps and fishing piers. Chatham County has amazing programming -- all kinds of sports, tons of arts or cultural or wellness offerings. Chatham County has amazing people -- coaches, recreation teams, grounds crews, administrative staff, and leadership. Chatham County has amazing community members who show up, participate, cheer us on, and make us better. Chatham County has amazing county management and commissioners who value, support, and challenge Parks and Recreation to live up to the highest potential.

One of the pillars of Chatham County Government's Blueprint is "Quality of Life" for all of our residents, and all of the above are reasons why our Parks and Recreation contribute so strongly to that. With 50 parks properties, Chatham County Parks and Recreation is seriously invested in providing all kinds of options for healthy living and enhanced quality of life.

The National Recreation and Park Association's 2025 theme of "Build Together, Play Together" echoes Chatham County Parks & Recreation's own vision, "to Create and Connect Communities through People, Parks, and Programs." Great minds think alike!

All during the month of July, County and Parks-related social media have been showing and telling how Chatham County Parks & Recreation makes that vison a reality in so many different ways.  Daily features show and tell how the Parks and Recreation professionals of Team Chatham bring people together, provide essential services, and help communities grow. It's been a great month!

Mingle Mondays are snapshots of our community coming together and enjoying our parks programming. Team Tuesdays -- well, you guessed it -- we're highlighting some of our people who are passionate parks professionals. On Wellness Wednesdays you get a glimpse of ways our parks are good for you. Thoughtful Thursdays focus on the great gift of natural riches our parks protect for us. Fun Fridays could be every day in our parks, but we're focusing on the fun at the end of each week.  Oh, and by the way, there's Selfie Saturday, too -- we want YOU to send us YOUR SELFIES of you living your best Parks Life, and we'll share them on social media!
