Every April, we carve out a week to show our appreciation for our telecommunicators—the hardworking men and women of our E-911 and Non-Emergency Call Center. They are the dedicated public servants on the other end of the line when everything feels like it's falling apart. National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week gives us the chance to recognize the people who are essential to every emergency response in Chatham County.
When you call 911, it’s a dispatcher who picks up. Calm, composed, and ready. Whether you’re reporting a fire, a medical scare, or an accident on the road, they’re the first to act. Before the sirens wail and help arrives, it’s their voice guiding you, getting the right responders where they need to be, fast.
These dispatchers and calltakers are trained professionals who shoulder a huge responsibility, often helping people who are having the worst day of their lives. Working around the clock—nights, weekends, holidays—they’re always there when someone calls for help. Their task is emotionally heavy and mentally exhausting, but they do it because they care deeply about the safety of our community.
National Telecommunicators Week is a small way to say thank you. Thank you for the calm you bring in chaos, and for the sacrifices you make to ensure no call goes unanswered. Thank you for the long hours and the steady hands in times of crisis.
To all our telecommunications professionals, your dedication does not go unnoticed. Your community is safer, stronger, and incredibly grateful for all you do.
